iPhone developers are being encouraged to go over the iOS 4 Readiness Checklist in what is Apple’s way of transitioning everyone (from programmers to consumers) to the next-generation of iPhone software. Developers are being told that all new apps and updates must be built with SDK 4 starting now, and that iOS 2.0 software is no longer supported in the App Store.

“Review the iOS 4 Readiness Checklist”, reads the latest announcement over at Apple’s iPhone Dev Center. “The next generation of the world's most advanced mobile operating system is in the hands of iPhone users around the world, and is now available to iPod touch users for free”, the Mac maker explains. “Make sure that your applications are compatible with iOS 4. All new applications and updates to existing applications must be built with iPhone SDK 4. In addition, the App Store will no longer support applications that target iOS 2.x, the company reveals to registered developers (emphasis ours).

iOS coders are encouraged to skim through the respective documentation to make the most of the new technologies in IOS 4. The checklist contains technical resources which include information on how iOS 4 apps must be handled by developers, and submitted to the iTunes App Store.

A week ago, on June 22, Apple used the News and Announcements section of its iPhone Dev Center to remind developers that success can only be achieved by creating a great presence on the App Store. The Cupertino-based software and electronics maker stated that, “Everything from the way you describe the functionality of your app to the images you use for your screenshots will impact a customer's initial perception of your app.” Apple then proceeded with offering a few tips to help devs create a great presence for themselves on the online venue.
