Cupertino seeks engineers to evaluate “technical constraints,” hints at iWatch

After teasing wearable devices in a new iPhone commercial, Apple seems to be dropping more iWatch hints in new job advertisements on its website.

Apple is seeking an iOS Software Engineer for its Mobile Devices division to collaborate with the company’s design team “to evaluate designs against the technical constraints of the software and the hardware of a small, low power device.” (emphasis ours)

Several other Software Engineering openings on Jobs at Apple are available with similar descriptions, all posted today, May 25.

If we didn’t know better, we’d say Apple has just confirmed the existence of its rumored iWatch product. However, the device could well be a new iPod, or even a new version of the iPhone.

Rumors continue to fly around regarding the potential release of the iWatch this year, though some analysts say the product won’t see the light of day until 2014.

Nonetheless, Apple’s job adverts seem to indicate that the company is hard at work on the device.

“Improving the applications and their underlying framework to push the envelope on exciting and easy to use interfaces,” reads the job description.

The new recruits also need to develop features and solutions “that can stand the test of time.”

“Coordinating with the quality assurance team to both ensure full test coverage as well as to initiate focused testing on critical components,” Apple adds.

The ideal candidate needs to have over 8 years of software development experience, as well as the following additional qualifications:

- Excellent C/C++ coding ability. - Experience with Cocoa and Objective-C - Experience with at least one application framework. - Excellent communication and organizational skills. - Proven record of completing projects on-time and to specification.

The Devices software engineers in charge with this project will have numerous responsibilities tied to “the design, development, and testing of the device software,” according to the Cupertino giant.

Finally, the job advert also states that the new engineers will work with the UI design and QA teams, likely under Jonathan Ive’s watch.
