In a press release announcing that 2 million iPhone 5s had been pre-ordered in the first 24 hours since launch, Apple confirmed that most of the orders would be fulfilled this month, but that many of them are still slated for October.

Noting that the iPhone 5 shattered the previous record of one million held by iPhone 4S, Apple confirmed to end-customers that “Demand for iPhone 5 exceeds the initial supply and while the majority of pre-orders will be delivered to customers on September 21, many are scheduled to be delivered in October.”

That may come as a disappointment to many customers who ordered their shiny new iPhone through Apple, but some will undoubtedly feel lucky to have just secured one.

The phone is slated to go international on September 28. For now, shipments will be fulfilled in the USA, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK.
