Apple MacBook Pro Battery Upgrade

In the past, many Apple products have had some problems with their batteries. This is mainly because all of them came with the Sony etiquette on them. As an Apple customer learned in the past, Sony had quite some problems with everything related to a battery and everything that used Sony cells was subjected to many recalls, issued by major computer manufacturers.

MacDailyNews reports that Fastmac started shipping a high-capacity, extended-life battery upgrade for the 15-inch MacBook Pro. This is not only the first, but also the only such kind of upgrade available until now. The new battery is a 62 Whr one and uses Lithium-Polymer cells (with integrated charge indicator LEDs) The TruePower technology used in them provides a safe computing experience. Fastmac's TruePower battery is compatible with all models of the 15-inch MacBook Pro
and this includes the new Core 2 Duo models that were recently announced. Each battery comes with a 1-year warranty and a 30-day money back guarantee for a special introductory price of $99.95.

If one wanted a larger capacity and a longer lasting advanced power cell battery for his/her MacBooks, Fastmac's product is ideal. The technology used (TruePower technology) incorporates sensors in the integrated circuit inside the battery. These sensors detect undesirable levels of swelling or a short circuit that will power off the battery in certain extreme conditions. The nice thing about the Fastmac's products is not only that they have 68% more capacity, but also that they do not use any Sony cells.

According to MacDailyNews, each battery is individually tested. They include safety features to protect against overcharge, overheating, short circuits and power surges. Also - in some cases - the 1-year warranty is extended to a 2-year warranty for such a battery.

Michael Lowdermilk, Business Development Manager for Fastmac Performance Upgrades Inc., stated in a press release that As a replacement, or a spare, our battery not only lasts longer but is $30 cheaper than any other MacBook Pro battery. We're glad that we were first to market with a product that will allow our customers to enjoy better technology at a better price.

In general, opinions are that not only does Fastmac provide a better storage capacity, but it is also more reliable and might spare users from the "Sony headaches". The Fastmac TruePower line includes battery upgrades for all iPods & all Apple portables. Well... for those that were released after 1997 anyway.

Er, the specs on their website say that this battery has a capacity of 62Wh. This is just over 3% higher than Apples quoted capacity of 60Wh. Where the hell do they get 68% higher from?? Or am I missing something?

Even worse than the false claim about the extra power is the fact that the bar graph shows a 100 percent increase in battery energy/capacity. What is going on here? Does someone have stock in this company???

I found the secret. According to the FastMac site:
"Up to 68% More Capacity Depending on Model"

So this particular battery doesn't buy you much. But the other 3rd party batteries I've seen are less than 60Wh, so I guess it's an improvement.
