A campaign spanning six years and dozens of gifts to end users, 12 Days of Christmas (re-dubbed 12 Days of Gifts in recent years) has been scrubbed off the list of priorities this year at Apple.

The campaign ran from 2007 to 2013 and offered multimedia gifts to Apple ID holders, including music and movies, as well as apps following the 2009 debut of the App Store. Apple would release a specialized app called 12 Days of Christmas / Gifts that iDevice owners could use to see what freebie was offered on a particular day.

With each passing day, the company would give away music, movies, and even software applications to those engulfed by the iOS ecosystem. 2014 marks the first year since 2007 that the Cupertino giant no longer heralds the promotion, and therefore loses some of its holiday spirit in the eye of the consumer.

Not officially dead

The Mac maker has failed to acknowledge the death of the campaign, which some interpret as a sign that it might live on in the future. However, Apple typically retires deals without warning, and almost always keeps the users in suspense around the holidays. However, according to at least one report, the company indeed had no plans to keep the campaign alive this year.

Apple’s deals generally offer little benefit, such as the Black Friday gift card promotion, which basically has customers paying full price only to receive an iTunes Gift card for spending on apps, movies, and music. 12 Days of Gifts was actually one of the most exciting deals the company had on offer every year.
