If you own a Samsung tablet, you’re probably very happy with it. A recent JD Power study claims that Samsung tablets provide the highest consumer satisfaction in 2013 and not Apple, as one might expect.

The JD Power study took place between the months of March and August and the market research firm indicates the top five key factors which influence users: performance, ease of use, styling / design, features and price.

It turns out that Samsung managed to score 835 points out of the maximum 1,000. Apple came in at number two with just 833 points. The difference is still pretty small, so both companies received the 5-star rating from JD Power. Completing the top three, we find Amazon with 825 points.

Even if Apple scored the maximum in most categories, Samsung managed to overcome the Cupertino tech giant largely due to scoring better in pricing.

The study also showed that 50% of customers listen to friends and family advice when looking to purchase a tablet, while 49% look for relevant information on the manufacturer websites. Shoppers evaluate sources based on brand reputation and previous experience with the brand.

The study showed that 59% of tablet owners involved in the study purchased their slate from a brick and mortar location, while only 41% acquired one online. Those who purchased their device online, rated their experience 8.5 (out of 10), while those who went out into the real word to grab it scored 8.3.

Senior Director of Telecommunications Services for J.D. Power, Kirk Parsons, commented on the results.

“Whether consumers prefer the online channel for competitive pricing compared to the tactile retail store experience, effectively matching owner needs with the appropriate tablet model during the purchase process goes a long way in positively influencing overall satisfaction.”

The Tablet Satisfaction Study surveyed 3,375 tablet owners that have owned and used their device for at least a year.
