Apple's lawyers have reportedly filed misleading documents with the Düsseldorf court showing an allegedly altered photo of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab to make it appear almost identical to the iPad.

Apple has managed to ban the sale of Samsung’s portables in most of Europe, but the Cupertino, California-based electronics vendor is not stopping until the Galaxy Tab is banned everywhere.

[ADMARk=1]It appears that Apple’s legal team saw an opportunity to convince a German judge that Samsung is infringing on its designs by changing the aspect ratio of a the rival’s tablet from 1.46 to 1.36, widening it by as much as eight percent.

Based on a comparison image provided by Webwereld.nd, it seems that the new image is actually closer in size to the iPad than it is to the a real Galaxy Tab.

The rendering also seems to have put a wider screen bezel on the Galaxy Tab, in what is regarded as yet another effort to convince the judge the two devices look a lot like each other.

According to Arnout Groen, a lawyer with the Dutch firm Klos Morel Vos & Schaap, "This is a blunder. That such a 'mistake' is made in a case about design rights can scarcely be a coincidence," he told Dutch magazine Webwereld.

"The aspect ratio of the alleged Galaxy Tab is clearly distorted to match the iPad more closely. Inasmuch as this faux pas will have consequences for the case is of course up to the judge. But at least a reprimand by the German judge seems to be in order," he said.

Apple’s filing with the Düsseldorf says that "The overall appearance of the two products shown above is almost identical, because the Galaxy Tab 10.1 copies all distinctive elements of equipment of the iPad 2."

However, accurate renderings of the Samsung Galaxy tab seem to undermine Apple’s wording.
