Following the launch of its Mac App Store, Apple today released updates for users of its Remote Desktop utility, addressing several issues related to compatibility, the company said in a technical note. The 3.4 update is recommended for all Apple Remote Desktop users, Apple claims.

Cupertino describes Remote Desktop as being the best way to manage the Mac computers on one’s network.

“Distribute software, provide real-time online help to end users, create detailed software and hardware reports, and automate routine management tasks - all without leaving your desk,” the Mac maker explains.

“Featuring Automator actions, Remote Spotlight search, and a new Dashboard widget, Apple Remote Desktop 3 makes your job easier than ever.”

Weighing in on the changes in this particular release, Apple adds: “This 3.4 update is recommended for all Apple Remote Desktop users and addresses issues related to compatibility.”

Both Client and Admin versions of Apple Remote Desktop 3.4 are available for download from Cupertino.

Alongside the two new versions of the Apple Remote Desktop utility, the company headquartered at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California, also released the “Remote Desktop Dashboard Widget”, a new piece of software that “gives you an instant, at-a-glance view of the remote computers in your network.”

According to its makers, the Apple Remote Desktop Widget is fully integrated with the administrative application.

Provided that a licensed copy of Apple Remote Desktop is installed on your Mac, clicking on a particular computer will allow you to select and start working with any computer in the system, Apple explains.

The widget is compatible with Mac OS X versions ranging from 10.4.11 (the latest iteration of Apple’s Tiger operating system) to Mac OS X 10.6x (Snow Leopard).
