Owners of a 2012 Mac are required to perform a system update after taking their computers out of the box for the first time, Apple reveals on its website. After releasing two separate versions of the OS X 10.8.2 update in the past month, a third version is now available for download.

Recommended for the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, the 21.5-inch iMac (late 2012) and Mac mini (late 2012) systems, OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 “includes all features and updates from OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 plus system-specific enhancements and fixes for late 2012 systems,” according to a knowledge base article on Apple Support.

For those who were hoping to learn what those system-specific changes are, KB article DL1603 sadly doesn’t mention any.

The changelog is the same one included with the original 10.8.2 release in September and the Supplemental 10.8.2 update launched at the beginning of this month.

New features include Facebook integration, Game Center enhancements, new shared Reminders lists, Passbook support in Safari, number-based FaceTime, new language support for Dictation, a French definition dictionary, and much more.

The update also incorporates “general operating system fixes that improve the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac,” Apple says, including some fixes, such as a new option to discard the changes in the original document when choosing Save As from the File menu.

You can Receive Twitter notifications for mentions and replies from anyone, and unsent drafts are opened automatically when launching Mail, just to name a couple more.

Also worth noting, when sending tweets from Notification Center, URLs are now shortened automatically.
