Before confirming the third-generation iPad, Tim Cook today introduced the new Apple TV with 1080p programming, including iTunes movies and TV shows, Netflix, Vimeo, photos and more - all in full 1080p HD.

Thanks to iTunes in the Cloud, Apple TV owners can purchase and play movies and TV shows from the iTunes Store and watch them on their HD TV, instantly.

The new set-top box comes with a simpler, refined user interface. Users will find it easier to access their purchased movies, TV shows and music with iTunes Match right from iCloud, Apple said today.

It supports AirPlay, which means you can stream or mirror anything you like from your iPad or iPhone 4S to the Apple TV.

The new Apple TV will be available on Friday, March 16 for the unchanged price of $99 (US) through the Apple online store, Apple’s retail stores, and authorized resellers.
