Apple’s creativity and productivity suites, iLife and iWork, have been updated and are now available free of charge with the purchase of every new Mac or iOS device. Both suites have been completely redesigned to take full advantage of OS X Mavericks and iOS 7.

iWork apps – Keynote, Pages, and Numbers – have a new, unified file format, which delivers perfect document fidelity across Mac, iOS, and iCloud, says Apple. iWork for iCloud beta offers real-time collaboration, allowing users to create and edit documents with others at a distance (even on Windows).

The suite sports a new UI which makes it simpler to use, but it still provides all the necessary tools to handle documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.

iPhoto for Mac and iOS are both 64-bit, allowing for a smoother experience in browsing and editing images. Its design, inspired by iOS 7, is cleaner now, and users get new tools and effects to create more artistic images in color and black and white.

iMovie has been redesigned to make it easier to browse a video library and share moments.

The Mac version in particular includes simplified editing tools, while the iOS version allows users to create split screen and picture-in-picture effects, as well as advanced audio edits thanks to the power of the A7 chip.

GarageBand is probably the biggest update. Apple’s music making app got a fresh new look, an all-new Sound Library, new features like Drummer and Smart Controls, and lots more.

Harnessing the power of 64-bit devices, GarageBand on iOS turns iPads into full recording studios with 32-track support. iOS 7’s Inter-App Audio lets you record third-party music apps right into GarageBand.

“This is the biggest day for apps in Apple’s history,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services.

“These new versions deliver seamless experiences across devices that you can’t find anywhere else and are packed with great features like iMovie Theater, Drummer and a new unified file format for iWork documents across all your devices,” added Cue.
