After postponing the iPhone 4S launch in China because of scalpers, Apple has decided to implement a system that requires full details of the customer, including a government-issued photo ID. The name and ID number must match as well.
The system is accessible only a few hours every day and it appears that customers must ‘win’ their reservation.
“You can request an iPhone reservation between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. daily. Please try your request again later,” Apple’s Chinese site said at the time of this writing.
The steps are: choosig an Apple Retail Store where you’d like to pick up your reserved products; choosing an iPhone model; a quantity selector; and your credentials (first and last name, email address, phone number, government ID).
