The Apple-designed music making software GarageBand has received an update adding MP3 exporting abilities, new drummers and accessibility features, as well as bug fixes across the board. The update is recommended to all existing users.

Version 10.0.2 may sound like a minor update, but in reality it is not. It adds major new features, such as the ability to export songs as MP3s, multiple enhancements to Accessibility, improved stability, three new Drummers and drum kits from the rock, songwriter, and R&B genres, and a host of bug fixes.

According to Apple, the new drums are “part of the one-time in-app purchase that includes the complete set of GarageBand sounds, loops, and drummers, as well as access to the GarageBand Lesson Store.”

Rebuilt from scratch in 2013 to gain a new look and new features, GarageBand 10 is described by Apple as “the easiest way to create a great-sounding song on your Mac.”

“Add realistic, impeccably produced and performed drum grooves to your song with Drummer. Easily shape the sound of any instrument in the Sound Library with Smart Controls. Crank up the bottom end with brand-new bass amps, or mix and match electric guitar amps, cabinets, and pedals with Amp Designer and Pedalboard,” says the Mac maker.

The Cupertino giant recently began offering Logic Remote, a companion app for GarageBand users who also own an iPad. The iOS sidekick allows musicians to declutter their desktop by moving various tools to the iPad’s screen. The tablet can also be used as a keyboard, drum pad, guitar fretboard, mixing board, or transport control.

GarageBand users can employ iCloud to keep their projects updated across multiple devices.

The software is free to download and use on any Mac with OS X 10.9 Mavericks installed. Newcomers can get started with 40 Basic Lessons for guitar and piano covering classical, blues, rock, and pop genres, and there are also Artist Lessons built inside the software that show you how to play a song, taught by the very artist who made it.

Supported languages include English, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, and Ukrainian.
