Apple is providing irrefutable clues that the next major iOS release, perhaps coupled with a new iPad announcement as well, will include a service that heavily focuses on a location-based feature rumored to be found in a forthcoming version of MobileMe.

Not one, but two job postings seeking an ‘iOS Maps Application Developer’ have been spotted at Apple’s website, lending further credence to rumors that Apple is replacing the current Maps application (which relies on Google) with smarter implementation of its own.

The Mac maker is known to prefer developing both hardware and software under its own terms, making it imperative for Apple to beef up any potential iOS maps project with talented recruits, if the company is to make a true foray.

“Come work for the team that revolutionized the mobile technology industry as it continues to define what computing looks like in a post-PC era,” reads Apple’s advertisement, which indirectly mentions the iPad.

“The Maps team is looking for a proactive and hardworking software engineer to join our team.”

“Along with excellent skills in object-oriented software design and programming, the successful candidate will have real-world experience developing sophisticated user interfaces,” the job description reads.

Applicants need excellent communication skills “as you will be collaborating closely with Apple's peerless human interface team to add new and innovative features,” the Mac maker notes.

A BS in computer science or equivalent is also required, along with strong object-oriented programming and design skills, experience at the application and user interface level, and a passion for product quality and attention to details.

Non requirements, but definitely considered a plus, include knowledge of Objective-C, C , or C++, experience with the iOS SDK and Cocoa programming language, deep understanding of graphics technology, and familiarity with and a passion for location-based technologies, according to the post.
