The company needs someone with expert knowledge of one or multiple cellular technologies

A new job posting at Apple suggests the company is planning to include 4G cellular radio technology in its portables, including the iPhone and the iPad, iLounge reports. Apple needs a “Cellular Technology Software Manager” who must have knowledge in one or multiple cellular technologies, including WCDMA/UMTS, HSPA, HSPA+, and LTE.

The full-time job is for Apple’s Cupertino, California offices. “The Cellular Technology Manager will manage the cellular protocol software team, responsible for the design, implementation and integration of layer 1-3 protocols for iPhone,” Apple explains. “The position will be responsible for ensuring appropriate cellular technology development and execution, KPI performances and interoperability of cellular technology on various platforms, R&D of new protocol and standards, as well as working with cross-functional teams to deliver the best customer experience on Cellular.”

Moving on to the requirements on the applicant’s end, Apple reveals it is in need of an expert with one or multiple cellular technologies. Those include WCDMA/UMTS, HSPA, HSPA+, LTE etc., the Mac maker says. Other requirements include:

- Understand the development cycle of phone, IOT, and certification process and carrier approval process; - Experience in 3GPP/3GPP2 industry groups; - Experience in building up and managing a team of highly experienced engineers; - Strong interpersonal skills (required to establish and maintain inter-departmental relationships); - Leadership skills/mentoring skills; - Strong verbal and written communication skills; - BSEE/CS or technical degree with relevant experience, and 5+ years experience in technical role, as well as management experience.

iLounge, which deals exclusively with news and information on Apple’s iProducts, points out that both AT&T and Verizon have confirmed plans to switch to LTE networks in the coming years. In fact, Verizon is expected to commence moving over to LTE later this year. AT&T, the official iPhone carrier in the US, seems better positioned for a 2011 rollout, the report suggests.
