Via the Mac OS X built-in Software Update mechanism, as well as through the Downloads section of its website, Apple has released an update for users of its Remote Desktop utility aimed at managing Mac computers on a network. The software assists admins in distributing software, providing real-time online help to other users on the network, create detailed software and hardware reports, and even automate routine management tasks.

According to the Cupertino, California-based electronics and software maker, “The 3.3.2 update is recommended for all Apple Remote Desktop users and addresses several issues related to overall reliability, usability and compatibility.” Both Client and Admin versions of the software update are available for free download.

Posted on January 11, 2010, Apple Remote Desktop 3.3.2 Admin weighs in at 51.41MB, whereas the Client version is only 4.21MB in size, according to Apple’s Downloads section. Our Mac OS X 10.6.2 Software Updater shows a 6.1 file size for Apple Remote Desktop Client Update 3.3.2.

For both releases, requirements include Mac OS X 10.4.11 – the latest version of Apple’s Tiger operating system – and Mac OS X 10.5.7 (Leopard) or later. Supported languages include Deutsch, English, and Français. Additionally, the update requires Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) version 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.2.1, 3.2.2, 3.3, or 3.3.1, and an Ethernet (recommended), AirPort, or IP over FireWire network connection.

As usual, Apple turns users’ attention to a Support document detailing stuff like compatibility with previous versions of Apple Remote Desktop, and the key improvements delivered with the 3.3.2 update. Softpedia will be discussing these changes in a separate article today. In the meanwhile, users of Apple’s Remote Desktop solution can update their version of the software (Admin / Client) using the download links below.
