Some iPod touch users were perhaps a bit startled to hear yesterday that Apple had released update v 1.1.5 for their devices - especially those who had already paid the 10 bucks for the 2.0 upgrade. As for users of an HP printer, an uber driver (v1.1) is also available courtesy of the Mac makers.

iPod touch update 1.1.5

Apple quietly issued another free iPod touch update mere days after the release of iPhone / iPod touch 2.0 software update. iPod touch software update 1.1.5 can be procured by
connecting your iPod touch to your Mac and declining the 2.0 update, Macworld informs. iTunes will then display the availability of the 1.1.5 update, which you will be able to download and install for free.

As far as anyone who updated could tell, iPod touch update 1.1.5 doesn't do anything to improve the appearance or functionality of the device, or not at first glance anyway. Some users suggested that iPod touch performs slightly faster, like when loading pages in Safari. The Macworld guys compared an 1.1.4 touch with a 1.1.5-enabled device and couldn't find any visible differences, meaning Apple has most likely issued a security-only update this time around.

In an article about the security content of iPhone v2.0 and iPod touch v2.0, Apple details some issues that users may encounter with software versions older than v2.0. It is fair to assume that 1.1.5 includes some of those security fixes, given that the company cannot and must not charge for a security update. So, while iPod touch OS v2.0 brings the App Store, MobileMe support and more, 1.1.5 is likely to include only the security fixes contained with iPod touch v2.0

HP Printer Driver 1.1

The driver most likely introduces support for newer models of HP printers, Macnn notes. Apple says that only users with a connected printer will see the software update popping up. However, even if you don't have your printer connected, you can download the driver now (405.1MB) and update whenever you want.

From Apple's support page:

About HP Printer Driver 1.1
The HP Printer Driver Update includes the latest drivers for printers you have used on your system.

This update is available via Software Update and will only be visible if the printer is connected to your computer or a print queue has been created for an earlier version.

The new HP printer driver supports Deutsch, English, French, and Japanese. System Requirements call for Mac OS X 10.5.3 or later.
