On the MobileMe News section of its website, Apple has announced the introduction of a new MobileMe Mail web application. The Mac maker is asking customers to try out the beta and provide feedback regarding their experience. Signing up for the beta can be done by just visiting me.com and logging in to MobileMe Mail, followed by a click on “Request an invitation.” Users receive an email notification when they are added to the beta, at which point they can start using the new features.

Speaking of new features, Apple describes them in great detail on the page dedicated to news, updates and tips from the MobileMe team. For example, the new widescreen and compact views allow users to see more of each message with less scrolling, when reading their mail at me.com. To hide their folders, users choose the compact view. To see more of a message list, there’s a classic view option. Single-click archiving, and increased security with SSL are also detailed in the post.

Users can create attractive email messages by using the formatting buttons to bold or italicize text, Apple explains, as well as to change font color, insert images, and more. This goes hand in hand with the new and improved performance that allows mail at me.com to load one’s inbox and messages faster. A number of interface refinements are also mentioned, including the ability to scroll through the entire inbox without having to manually click to load the next set of messages.

“We look forward to your feedback on the MobileMe Mail beta — you can tell us what you think by clicking the feedback link below your mail folders at me.com,” Apple notes. According to the company, customers should employ Safari 4, Firefox 3.6, or Internet Explorer 8, as MobileMe Mail beta works best with these particular web browsers. An FAQ is also presented to those visiting the MobileMe News section, for those who may want to find out more about the beta.
