Apple Inc. Applies for iAd Trademarks Under Four Distinct Classes

Apple has not one, but four iAd trademark applications filed with the US Patent & Trademark Office which published Apple's latest trademark application for "iAd" under applications 85139086, 85139109, 85139119 and 85139138, reports Patently Apple.

The US Patent & Trademark Office published Apple's said trademark application for "iAd" on October 1, 2010 (today).

The advertising-focused trademark is filed under four distinct International Classes.

These cover “computer software, marketing, promotional services and being able to serve and transmit audio, video, multimedia, and advertising,” the report says.

Launched in April 2010, Apple’s iAd platform reportedly reaches millions of iPhone and iPod touch users worldwide.

Patently Apple then goes to include the International Class Details of its trademark findings, which are documented as follows:


International Class 009: computer software development tools; computer software for creating and transmitting advertisements. (Application 85139086)

International Class 036: advertising, marketing, and promotion services; advertising and marketing consultation; providing business and commercial information over computer networks and global communication networks; business services, namely, dissemination of advertising for others via computer networks and global communication networks. (Application 85139109)

International Class 038: serving and transmitting audio, video, multimedia, and advertising content to computers, mobile telephones, media players, and other mobile digital devices. (Application 85139119)

International Class 042: Application service provider (ASP) services featuring computer software development tools and computer software for creating and transmitting advertisements; information, advisory and consultancy services relating to all the aforesaid. (Application 85139138)


According to the report, U.S. Registration Numbers 3515183 and 3515184, which also assert a claim of priority based on Jamaica application number 55369 (filed on 03/29/2010), are owned by Apple.

In April, Apple also filed a trademark for iAd in Canada. The application number was 1475581, according to the same source.
