Apple has released a new version of Keynote, the company’s presentation-making software for Mac OS X and part of the iWork productivity suite. Version 5.1.1 of the app enhances stability and accessibility, and resolves problems with large files.

According to a technical note on Apple’s Support site, “This update addresses issues when working with large Keynote presentations on OS X Lion. It also includes improvements in stability and accessibility for Keynote.  “

Cupertino recommends the update to all users of Keynote 5.1 and says there’s actually more to be gained form this update than the enhancements enumerated above.

A separate tech note containing detailed info on Keynote 5.1.1 reveals that it’s not just Lion users that are targeted by the update, but Snow Leopard users too:

“Keynote 5.1.1 is an update recommended for Keynote 5.1. This update is for users with Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later and OS X Lion,” reads the documentation.

“This update addresses issues that occur when working with large Keynote presentations on OS X Lion. It also includes improvements in stability and accessibility for Keynote,” support document HT5026 says.

The document describes the various methods which you can employ to update your copy of Keynote, such as downloading the new app from the Mac App Store; selecting Software Update from the Apple menu and choosing Keynote 5.1.1 from the list of available updates; or using a standalone installer.

Describing the last method more broadly, Apple says you can update via standalone installer if you originally purchased iWork in a box or downloaded and then activated an iWork trial version.

“This is an alternative method to the Software Update method above, and is a useful option when you need to update multiple computers but only want to download the update once,” according to the Mac maker.
