Amid rumors that Apple is moving away from Google in order to provide its own mapping services to iOS customers, Apple has posted a job advertisement for iOS Maps Application Developer.

Apple entices potential applicants encouraging them to “Come work for the team that revolutionized the mobile technology industry as it continues to define what computing looks like in a post-PC era.”

“The Maps team is looking for a proactive and hardworking software engineer to join our team,” reads the ad.

A successful candidate will need excellent skills in object-oriented software design and programming, as well as real-world experience developing sophisticated user interfaces.

The ideal recruit will have excellent communication skills, often a must for various positions within Apple, “as you will be collaborating closely with Apple's peerless human interface team to add new and innovative features,” the posting reveals.

Rumors of Apple revamping the iOS Maps application date back since 2009 when the Mac maker acquired the mapping and navigation company PlaceBase, as TUAW points out.

Apple also bought Poly9 in 2010 and, most recently, has confirmed plans that it is using location data "to build a crowd-sourced traffic database with the goal of providing iPhone users an improved traffic service in the next couple of years."
