Amid rumors of Apple developing its own controller for what could potentially turn the Apple TV into a gaming console, the Cupertino giant has opened a position for Sensing Systems Engineer.

Among the core responsibilities for the job, Apple lists “designing, developing and characterizing sensing systems.”

On a broader note, the job advert states: “Applicant must be familiar with MEMS sensor technology such as motion sensor performance metrics, magnetic sensor usage and limitations, acoustic, pressure, optical and environmental sensing, as well as manufacturing technologies of such sensors.”

Sounds like the type of stuff you’d put in today’s gaming controllers. Think outside the box on this one. Apple may want to go even farther than Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Motion sensing has been around for a while.

Candidates will require over two years of hands-on experience and proven track record in the sensing-system hardware engineering, as well as “Fundamental knowledge and experience in mechanical, electrical and material science engineering, physics, and manufacturing technology relevant for sensor fabrication.”
