A new section in the Mac App Store called ‘Better Together’ is Cupertino’s latest move to promote the most relevant pieces of software capable of syncing, pairing, and controlling your Apple hardware.

“Sync. Pair. Control. This collection of apps highlights the amazing connectivity possible between a Mac, iPhone, and iPad,” says Apple. With iCloud, this will be taken even further.

Marketed with the tagline ‘Better Together. Apps to Connect Mac, iPhone & iPad,’ the new Mac App Store section aggregates dozens of productivity, and social networking apps, as well as a handful of games, and creative apps.

The Sync area includes popular titles like wunderlist, Pulp, Evernote, Bento, Things, MacFamilyTree, TextExpander, BusyCal, and Marketcircle’s Billings application for business, as well as less advertised apps such as ToDo, and Yojimbo.

In the Pair section, you get hit in the face by Apple’s own FaceTime video-chatting, followed by Galcon Fusion, Home Inventory, BoinxTV Home, Whiteboard Pro, PhotoSync, and Mover Connect.

Moving on to the Control zone, apps like Keynote (Apple’s presentation software), Air Display, Mobile Mouse Server, and PocketCloud Companion App can be found. Alongside these serious pieces of software, fun apps like djay, Chopper 2 and Burn Zombie Burn are also included, for one reason or another.

Apple has historically taken time to highlight la creme de la creme of apps in its iOS app stores for the iPhone and iPad.

This is perhaps the first such move with a focus on the Mac and it’s undoubtedly tied to Apple’s recent Back to School announcement.

Under the rules of the promotion, faculty members, parents and students who buy a qualifying Mac between now and September 20, 2011 will get a $100 gift card to spend (you guessed it) in the Mac App Store.
