Contradicting info says Foxconn scored most of the orders

A report from Japan’s Makotakara claims Apple has given the go-ahead for production of the next-generation iPad. The source reporting on this new development says the tablet may well bear a 2S moniker because the enhancements will be minor.

Citing an unnamed Chinese source, the blog claims both Foxconn and Pegatron have been ordered to start making the next-gen iPads.

However, in contrast with a report from Digitimes earlier this week, this source said Foxconn is handling the majority of the orders (85%), not Pegatron (which has the remainder - 15%).

The hardware is almost identical to the iPad 2, the source said, with button placement and dock connector size remaining the same. The only major differences will be the screen resolution - the panels being supplied by Sharp - and a slight modification to the alignment of the magnets used to keep Smart Covers in place. After analyzing the leaked details, Makotakara seems convinced that the next iPad will be called iPad 2S, not iPad 3.
