iTunes has new reasons to celebrate. The 17 European stores that operate under the iTunes brand have sold until now 50 million songs.

After the American success, the first iTunes stores showed up in 2004 in UK, France and Germany, and now users from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Holland, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland have their own music download sites.

iTunes is currently offering over 1 million songs provided by 1,000 record companies.

In the press release that announced the reaching the 50 million song threshold, Apple didn't forget to thank iTunes fans.

According to Apple's statements, since iTunes was released they have sold over 430 million songs. If things go on like this, we will soon witness the celebration of the 500 millionth download.

Unfortunately, Apple hasn't succeeded to attack Japan, the company's representatives still negotiating for that market.
