14 DAY TRIAL // Apple has reportedly hired people from a huge range of domains to create its much hyped iWatch, including health and fitness experts, as well as SoC designers.
Sources close to 9to5mac have revealed to the site that “Apple has begun assembling a team of hardware and software engineering, medical sensor, manufacturing, and fitness experts.”
The company is hard at work on the device “with a project to build a fitness-oriented, sensor-laden wearable computer,” according to the report.
Apple is said to have a flurry of teams working on the IWatch, each tasked with a specific function of the device, such as the sensors that measure a person’s vitality.
For the battery, Apple has reportedly “rounded up […] experts from other divisions inside the company.”
iPhone and Mac engineers are working on the project, in what seems to be the biggest collaborative effort in years at 1 Infinite Loop.
Even the people coming aboard from Apple’s AuthenTec acquisition are working on the device, the sources said. In other words, a fingerprint reader could be implemented alongside all the other sensors.
Not surprisingly, the Cupertino giant has a few specialists developing “miniature, power-efficient system-on-a-chips.” The iWatch not only wants to perform beautifully, but also to save energy.
“…Apple has unsurprisingly tapped members of Bob Mansfield’s semiconductor team, but it has also poached employees from chip design firms such as Infineon and XMOS,” reads the report.
It’s hard to believe, but there’s more. Much more. Apple has also reportedly made hires from companies that specialize in analyzing sleep patterns. And several experts on blood monitoring sensors (from C8 MediSensors) are also pitching in.
There’s good news and bad news to this. The good news is that iWatch seems to be shaping up to be one awesome wearable computing device.
The bad news is that, by the sound of this report, Apple is still a long way from completing development.
