Some insane rumors are coming out of Asia this week, with one stating that Apple will double the pixel count on its already sharp Retina display, while another claiming that the company is planning to launch a huge iPad model.

According to Korea’s ET News, Apple is preparing an all-new iPad model to give the ultrabook market a final blow.

“Insiders” tell the publication that this iPad, presumably the sixth-generation model, will boast a 12.9-inch display, which is comparable to the screen size of the higher-end MacBook Air (13.3-inches), and even some MacBook Pros.

The name tossed in the Korean report is “iPad maxi,” which sounds utterly ridiculous. Someone should tell whoever the rumorist was that “maxi” isn’t exactly the antonym of “mini.” It still sounds like a diminutive, and Apple wouldn’t be caught dead using such uninspired, antagonistic marketing terms.

Not that the 13-inch screen makes much sense either. Unless Apple plans to ship this thing with a keyboard, that is.
