Apple has confirmed to those enrolled in its Developer Program that iPhone 3.0 Beta 4 (Build 7a300g) is now available for download. Sources inform that privileged developers have also received a certain iTunes 8.2 (pre-release) beta. The latter is required to install the new iPhone OS 3.0 Beta. As usual, an updated version of the iPhone SDK accompanies the fresh OS build.

At the time MacRumors reported the availability of the new software, no new features had been revealed. However, the folks over at the Modmyi forums have a few accounts to make, such as:

– Installing iTunes 8.2 and restoring on beta 4 works fine; – After you take a pic you have the option of re-taking; – While playing shows if you are connected via some bluetooth; – Error 3004 probably means iTunes can't connect to Apple servers to verify you have a dev account. Open port 8080 on your router; – New iTunes shows how much time remaining to restore backup; – New iTunes syncs voice memos.

Also confirmed by those familiar with the new software is that iTunes 8.2 checks that the user is a registered developer before allowing them to update the iPhone. Macrumors chimes in, adding that iTunes 8.2 carries Blue-ray references to Gracenote that suggest an upcoming Blu-ray support, according to one of the site's readers.

“With a rich set of over 1,000 new APIs, iPhone SDK for iPhone OS 3.0 beta provides you with an amazing range of technologies to enhance the functionality of your iPhone and iPod touch applications,” Apple says, addressing the vast developer community upon the initial release of iPhone 3.0 Beta. “New APIs also provide support for applications to communicate with hardware accessories attached to iPhone or iPod touch.”

In order to download the iPhone SDK 3.0 Beta 4, you need to log in with your Apple ID. You must be enrolled in the iPhone Developer Standard or Enterprise Program to access the development resources for iPhone OS 3.0 Beta. Mac OS X 10.5.5 (or later) is also required to be able to use iPhone SDK 3.0 Beta 4.
