Apple is making it clear in the updated App Store Marketing Guidelines that developers aren’t allowed to use Gold stand-ins of iPhone 5s units to promote their apps.

The reason isn’t known, but we can guess Apple wants to save the best for its own marketing efforts.

The product colors offered for download include Silver and Space Gray for iPhone 5s, iPad Air, and iPad mini, while the iPhone 5c comes in White and Blue, the two most popular color choices among customers (according to a recent survey).

The iDevice models provided by Apple have blank screens on which application developers can paste their screenshots to appear as if the app is running on the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch.

“Feature only the most current Apple products in the following finishes or colors: iPhone 5s in silver or space gray, iPhone 5c in white or blue, iPad Air in silver or space gray, and iPad mini in silver or space gray,” Apple states.
