Australia won't get the Galaxy Tab slate any time soon

Apple and Samsung have been clashing a lot in courts lately, after the former sued the latter for patent infringement because of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet, and it seems like there isn't going to be any settlement between the two, not in Australia anyway.

The legal fight between Apple and Samsung hasn't been getting any more tame over the past month, references to A Space Odyssey or no.

In Australia, things have been heating up for an even longer period of time than in Europe, where Samsung is trying its hardest to get past Apple's patent infringement suit.

Basically, Apple banned the Galaxy tab 10.1 from several regions, Australia being one of them.

It is there that Samsung tried to reach a quick settlement with the plaintiff, hoping to put an end to the delay that the tablet has been saddled with.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 had been pushed back from August to September already when the company proposed the deal a few days ago.

Unfortunately, Apple rejected the offer, even after Samsung agreed to pull out two features from the device, reducing the number of disputed patents to one.

In other words, the Tab still doesn't look like it will land in Australian stores any time soon,

Apple reportedly claimed, or at least was suggested to have used as justification for its quick rejection of Samsung's offer, the hope that it will win a real victory in court.

In other words, Apple really wants to eliminate the Galaxy Tab 10.1 from the market, seeing it as a threat to the iPad.

The iPad, meanwhile, still is clearly in the lead of the tablet segment as far as sales go.

As things stand, it is easy to guess that the legal spat is going to continue for quite a while, since either party can keep appealing and arguing for their own side for months.

What remains is to see if Apple starts seriously reducing its reliance on Samsung DRAM and Flash components, as was implied last month.
