Via three software updates, Apple is addressing various graphics issues and Thunderbolt connectivity problems on the newest iMac and MacBook Pro computers.

iMac EFI Update 1.6 includes fixes that improve performance and stability for Thunderbolt, according to the company headquartered at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California.

MacBook Pro EFI Update 2.1 includes fixes that resolve an issue with Turbo Mode in Boot Camp, and improve performance and stability for graphics and Thunderbolt.

MacBook Pro Software Update 1.4 includes fixes that improve graphics stability, address issues with external display support and 3D performance, and improve Thunderbolt device support, Apple said.

Weighing in on the iMac update, Apple explains that “the iMac EFI Update will update the EFI firmware on your iMac computer.”

“When your iMac restarts, a gray screen will appear with a status bar to indicate the progress of the update,” reads Apple technical documentation.

“It will take several minutes for the update to complete. Do not disturb or shut off the power on your iMac during this update,” Apple says.

The update requires the Mac OS X 10.6.7 Update for iMac (early 2011) to be installed first. The latter includes general operating system fixes for Mac OS X Snow Leopard that enhance stability, compatibility, performance, and security. More on this release here.

This week Apple released upgraded iMac computers with quad-core Intel Sandy Bridge processors, new AMD graphics, new Thunderbolt I/O technology and built-in FaceTime HD cameras.

The systems start at the same entry-level price - $1,199 only they’re now up to 70 percent faster. The new graphics is said to deliver up to three times the performance of the previous generation.

Similarly specced MacBook Pros were launched earlier this year.
