Apple Finally Talks iPhone SDK

Yesterday, Apple sent out invitations to the media for a briefing on its "iPhone Software Roadmap," which really means "Here's your frikkin SDK! Now hopefully, you'll shut the hell up already." Apple has failed to meet its end-of-February deadline for rolling out, or disclosing information about the SDK, but thankfully, a "solid state date" has been confirmed.

The event, which is expected to include vital information concerning the long-awaited iPhone/iPod touch software development kit, is scheduled at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. Since the media is expected to arrive with the invitations at the bay area on March 6, Apple has of course failed to meet a self-imposed deadline again, this time for releasing the iPhone/iPod SDK (or at least talking freely about it) by the end of February.

The iPhone Software Roadmap event is aimed at letting the media in on the iPhone SDK and "some exciting new enterprise features." Oh, how they love stirring you-know-what up! "Some exciting new enterprise features," huh? Well, at least the SDK is mentioned. Whether it is just an unveiling of its features (and what developers will be able to create using it), or they're actually releasing it, that remains to be seen.

The much-awaited software development kit, or SDK, for iPhone, is said to help developers produce nifty third party apps for Apple's phone, as well as the iPod touch (which is really just another iPhone without the calling, messaging capabilities). Even without it, developers are able to create applications that work with Apple's popular touchscreen devices, among which iHalo Stats and iAno are just two pieces of software that stand for what the devices can do.

The event will be a "Town Hall" type of thing, according to ars technica, much like the one Apple hosted back in 2007, the year when it introduced the aluminum iMacs.
