We find out more about how the future iPhone speakers will work

The next-generation iPhone 6 is just around the corner and Apple is readying some new innovation in that device. A new patent application revealed by patentlyapple uncovers more of the audio system that the future iPhone may have.

The application was published today by the US Patent and Trademark Office today is titled "Long-Throw Acoustic Transducer". At first sight, the title and drawings do not reveal too much. However, the info within the patent application talks about a special designed speaker fit for very thin devices. The said speaker uses a magnetic piston as the sound producing element. Therefore, Apple will be able to make a device with a more vibrant audio for music, ringtones and alerts.

Apple specifically explains how this will change the way the thin speakers in devices will work. As we already know, based on the rumors, the next-generation iPhone 6 will be a thinner iOS device and Apple may go even thinner with future generations.

Until now, the audio speakers were made to produce sound as electrical signals were emitting air pressure waves. Most speakers use a diaphragm coupled to a voice coil in a suspended magnetic field. In order for a speaker to work properly and produce high-quality sounds it needs to displace a large volume of air. Apple wants to change all of that and have more compact speakers with great sound quality.

Their innovation describes a moving magnetic piston as the sound producing part. Imagine a piston that pushes the air and creates a good sound in a tight spot.

Apple credits Scott Porter, Christopher Wilk and Ruchir Dave as the inventors of this patent application that was filed back in the first few months of 2013.

Apple is expected to release the iPhone 6 in less than a month. The future device would sport a larger 4.7-inch or 5.5-inch inch diagonal display a thiner profile. The device should be revealed before mid September and released to the Apple Retailers the next week.

The iPhone 6 will come along iOS 8. The operating system will not bring any major changes design-wise, but it will improve upon iOS 7. There is also a good number of features catered to developers. They will get more access to important APIs and will be able to include Maps or Health related parameters into their apps.  iOS 8 will also bring Control Center extensions - a way for developers to provide quick access to just one feature of their app and incorporate that into the iOS.
