SHAPE Services has contacted Softpedia with word that a new version of their best selling app is available with several feature requests now implemented for avid users.

Featured in Apple’s iPhone commercials, Business Card Reader provides instant business card recognition right on the iPhone.

It’s a five dollar app that also lets you import contact information from a business card directly to your iPhone’s address book.

It recognizes business cards in English, French, German, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Greek, Norwegian, Portuguese, Swedish, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

To do so, the app takes a picture of a business card, 'reads' it using text recognition technology and automatically fills in appropriate contact information fields in the iPhone address book. These can be easily checked and corrected afterwards.

So, what’s so exciting about version 2.0 that SHAPE Services was dying to get the word out.

Well, Business Card Reader for iPhone version 2.0 brings significantly improved contact editing with a new contact editor, as well as convenient precise scanned card preview. It also features an uncertain recognized symbols highlight.

The changelog continues with the following key aspects:

• Instant multi-lingual business card recognition right on the iPhone. • Import and merging of a scanned contact information with iPhone contacts (with groups support). • LinkedIn support. Find the scanned contact on LinkedIn, import contact photo from LinkedIn profile, and read the profile in one tap with a built-in browser not leaving the app. • Business Card Holder to search and sort contacts, call, and send emails.

The app is also improved from a reliability standpoint with various bug fixes and performance improvements, SHAPE Services says.

SHAPE Services’ Business Card Reader 2.0 is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and requires iOS 3.1 or later.
