Report cites every possible rumor regarding Apple’s next iPhone refresh

A new IBT report attempts to make waves on this admittedly slow-news day posting the headline “Apple iPhone 6 Release Date Coming, Features 3D Vision Sensor.”

There are not many publications bold enough to make such a statement without a big, fat “rumor” sign stamped on it. IBT, on numerous occasions, has dished out Apple rumors as if they were confirmed facts.

According to their reporting, “Features of the most anticipated device reportedly include longer battery life, improved camera, wraparound display and sapphire screen.”

No one has said anything about the iPhone 6 battery so far, and there are no rumors that it will offer more mileage.

While it is easy to argue that a larger iPhone will sport a larger battery (pretty much a given), a bigger screen coupled with more processing power will implicitly require a heftier cell, but not necessarily to “expand” battery life.

As far as the wraparound display is concerned, it’s nothing but a dream shared by numerous mockup artists uploading their renderings to the web for people to gush at their imagination.

There is no evidence whatsoever that Apple is developing an iPhone whose display wraps around the edges. Such a handset hasn’t even been prototyped at Apple, to our knowledge.

The report then adds, “Latest reports noted the 6th generation iPhone will have 3D vision [...] As rumors ran rampant about this acquisition, fans are assuming that motion sensor technology will be included into the 6th generation iPhone.”

The fans aren’t assuming anything. It’s the tech blogosphere (and reports like these) that’s telling the fans what to assume.

While the possibility is there (and it will undoubtedly happen one day), there are no leaks to provide an indication that the next iPhone is getting some sort of 3D vision sensors. In reality, Apple is far more likely to use 3D motion sensors in a new version of its Apple TV.
