Rescuecom has released its latest Computer Reliability Report which strangely puts Apple at #2 behind HP with half the latter’s score.

As usual, the chart notes the top five manufacturers with the best overall computer reliability.

The list is provided as follows...

1. HP/Compaq (346) 2. Apple (179) 3. IBM/Lenovo (177) 4. Asus (144) 5. Toshiba (96)

…with Rescuecom noting that “HP/Compaq remained the most popular buyers' choice as the company took not only 25% of the total market share but also the top spot in reliability.”

“The HP/Compaq computer repair reliability score especially stands out in 2011 as it is nearly double the score of the second place winner, Apple,” Rescuecom outlines.

However, the Rescuecom figures do not necessarily reflect reality, Softpedia would like to point out.

Not to say that Rescuecom’s chart must not be considered reliable, but customers have historically preferred calling up the manufacturer itself when faced with a technical problem.

And Apple blows competition away when it comes to customer support, multiple surveys have shown.

Rescuecom continues to dish out information regarding the latest Reliability Report, noting that Dell also represented a high percentage of total computer market share at just under 24%.

However, its reliability score was so low that it failed to make one of the top 5 spots.

"At the conclusion of 2009, we questioned whether Asus would be able to maintain the top spot," observes David A. Milman, CEO of RESCUECOM.

"We now have our answer. As Asus' market share has grown throughout 2010, the company has fallen from its top position to a still respectable 4th place."

In all fairness, the same thing is applicable to Apple, whose market share also grew.

Since the Computer Reliability Report is based on the brand's computer market-share, calculated with the corresponding percentage of computer repair inquiries Rescuecom receives, the support centre claims to give an unbiased rating for that manufacturer showing which customers must seek third-party computer repair services more often.

The company makes a specific note in saying that tablet computers, such as Apple’s iPad, are not included in the report, but they may be included in future studies.
