Apple has outlined exactly what the Bluetooth Update 1.0 for Windows does in terms of helping the user enjoy his / her experience with a Mac computer running Windows in Boot Camp. Boot Camp is a utility included with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard that lets users run compatible versions of Microsoft Windows on an Intel-based Mac.

Last modified on October 28, 2009, Support article TS3093 reveals that, “Certain features such as up-down scrolling on the Apple Magic Mouse and brightness controls, volume controls, the Eject key, and the key combination Control-Alt-Delete on the Apple Wireless Keyboard (2009) may not work with Boot Camp.” That is, unless the user downloads and installs the company’s latest Bluetooth software update.

Aimed at users of newer iMac models – iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009), iMac (27-inch, Late 2009) – that ship with Apple’s standard Wireless Keyboard (2009), and Magic Mouse, the update addresses incompatibility issues for those running Windows using Boot Camp. “[...] You should install the Apple Bluetooth Update 1.0 for Windows to resolve these issues,” the company stresses.

“This update improves the performance of the Apple Bluetooth devices while running Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Vista on the iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009) and iMac (27-inch, Late 2009) computers using Boot Camp,” Apple reveals in a separate area of its Support section. The company then proceeds to offer installation instructions for owners of the “affected” iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009) and iMac (27-inch, Late 2009). Softpedia noted earlier that the update undoubtedly added compatibility between Boot Camp, Windows and Apple’s Magic Mouse, but failed to guess that the wireless keyboard was also targeted by the Apple Bluetooth Update for Windows.

“Using Windows XP or Vista, download the update from the Apple website,” the first step goes. “When the download is complete, AppleBcUpdate.exe appears on the desktop,” Apple continues to stress. “Double-click on AppleBcInstaller.exe and follow the onscreen instructions to install the update. If your computer is not eligible for this update, you'll receive a ‘This update is not intended for this computer and will not be installed’ message when you start the update,” the Mac maker reveals.
