Today’s iPad launch event will be streamed live via Apple TV, and likely on the web too, according to a backend move from Cupertino, California. Apple changed the “Apple Events” channel icon.

Apple TV owners can access all special event presentations via a dedicated channel called “Apple Events.” The company also holds recordings of past keynotes on its web site.

Ahead of events that it plans to stream to the public, the Cupertino giant changes the icon’s theme to match the artwork used for that particular event. This time around, it’s colorful leaves floating around the iconic Apple logo.

While so far Apple has confirmed intentions to stream the event via Apple TV, there’s a pretty good chance the video feed will also be available online (i.e. via a web browser).

The Cupertino giant reportedly plans to unveil a new generation of iPads, OS X Mavericks, and an Apple TV refresh, among other things. I’ll update this post with a link to the live stream when/if Apple makes it available.

Update: The live stream address for Apple Special Event, October 2013.

Streaming requires Safari 4 or later on OS X v10.6 or later; Safari on iOS 4.2 or later. Apple TV streaming requires second- or third-generation Apple TV (Software Update 5.0.2 or later).

Apple is expected to launch not one, but two new iPad models during today’s special event: iPad 5, retaining the 9.7-inch display in a thinner and lighter enclosure, and iPad mini 2, with its new Retina display and A7 chip.

OS X Mavericks is likely to debut today via the Mac App Store as a cheap upgrade for existing users of Apple’s desktop operating system.

Free versions of iLife apps are also expected to debut today, including a free-to-download version of GarageBand with in-app purchases (for instruments and effects).
