Allen Haughay Jr. 48-year-old Apple software engineer was riding his horse, Regal Bull, over to a neighbor's mariachi party on Hale Avenue when he got struck by a 2004 GMC pickup truck and died, along with his horse.

Haughay was reportedly riding with a handful of friends at about 8:20 p.m. when the pickup hit him from behind.

According to California Highway Patrol. Sgt., Adam Rodriguez, Haughay was flung onto a parked Ford and suffered major head injures.

The Apple engineer was flown to Valley Medical Center where he was declared dead.

Friends hope to cremate Regal Bull and bury the ashes with Haughay's remains, according to mercurynews.com.

The driver of the GMC remains free at the moment as the CHP investigates whether the driver was guilty or not.

According to the police report, there seems to be a good chance the driver didn't see Haughay and his horse on the road, or that the horse had made a wrong move.

Police also say that the driver and his female passenger were not injured.

Abel Urbina, who has been in a "steady relationship" with Haughay for three years and lived with him on his ranch, said "He was the happiest person. I'm going to miss him terribly. This is a complete life-changer for me."

"I imagine this is all going to hit us pretty hard at the office," said Jesse Boettcher, Haughay's supervisor at Apple. "He was so full of life. He laughed more than most people. He had so many friends."

Haughay was diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancer and he seemed to be improving rapidly thanks to a new type of chemotherapy.

His death is regarded as ironical, by Haughay's colleague, David Shayer of Palo Alto. "It looked like he was going to make it."
