Apple has dropped to the third spot in Rescuecom’s first quarter Computer Reliability Report for 2010. IBM/Lenovo ranks first, with Asus following in on its footsteps taking spot #2. Rescuecom makes its measurements based on two fundamentals, the company said - the quality of the components and software used in manufacturing the computer, and the after sale support the manufacturer provides to its customers.

The report lists the top five contenders as follows, based on their computer reliability scores:

1. IBM/Lenovo (521) 2. Asus (446) 3. Apple (382) 4. Toshiba (262) 5. HP/Compaq (217)

“The results are in for RESCUECOM’s 2010 first quarter Computer Reliability Report, IBM/Lenovo claims the top spot, Apple drops to third!” Rescuecom announced earlier this week. The company provides homes and businesses with 24/7 computer repair and support, and offers its assistance on data recovery, virus removal, wired and wireless networking, while supporting all brands of hardware and software, according to the about-us over at Rescuecom.com.

Delving deeper into this year’s findings, Rescuecom claims that its Computer Reliability Report “starts out on a high note in 2010, with all five leading manufacturers putting up superior reliability scores to last year’s averages.” Rescuecom acknowledges that “Apple, last year’s overall leader, improved its reliability score, but that still wasn’t good enough to maintain the top spot in the first quarter of 2010; instead Apple dropped to third place. IBM/Lenovo decidedly took first place improving their score over 200 points from their average last year,” the company says.

“Not to be forgotten, Asus also posted significant gains and took second place. Rounding out the top five were Toshiba and HP/Compaq, respectively. As 2010 progresses it will be interesting to see which manufacturers can maintain their gains which ones may fall due to increased need for computer repair,” Rescuecom concludes.

Explaining how it is able to measure the aforementioned fundamentals to calculate an unbiased reliability score for each manufacturer, Rescuecom reveals that the calculation is actually quite simple. It weighs the number of computers an individual manufacturer ships against the number of computer repair calls Rescuecom handles for that respective manufacturer. The company claims it can ensure great reliability in its report by recalculating the nationwide numbers every other quarter.

"In this economy, consumers and business owners want to know a computer is reliable before they invest hard-earned dollars," says David A. Milman, CEO of RESCUECOM. "Our reports are intended to empower consumers when they head out to make purchasing decisions. Since technology develops at a rapid pace, our quarterly analyses provide a timely resource."
