You wouldn’t believe it unless Apple stamped it on a piece of cardboard, but apparently WWDC is 25 years old. The annual developer event is older than many of the people reading this here report. And, for that, Apple is handing out gift cards and jackets.

The gift cards are worth $25 (€18.34), or $1 (€0.72) for every WWDC event that ever existed. Apple is handing these to registered developers who were lucky enough to nab a ticket to this year’s gathering and are now on hand for the opening keynote. The cards bear a tagline that states “25 years and coding.”

With only hours to go before the event goes live, the company is also handing out jackets to attendees. According to one developer who is present at Moscone West, the wind breakers have an opening around the wrist area to accommodate for a watch.

“WWDC14 Jacket. Notice the wrist area, can be open to reveal your wrist.....watch!!?? Apple, you tease!” writes iOS developer mimi_sf on Twitter.

With Apple rumored to finally announce its revolutionary smartwatch this year and only a few hours to go before the opening keynote, one has to wonder if the company’s one more thing consists of the elusive iWatch. After all, Tim Cook & Co. have promised an explosive 2014 and we’re halfway through to reach the deadline. How much time is there left to unleash this plethora of new things?

The Worldwide Developers Conference is held at San Francisco’s Moscone West and will last until June 6. Only the first day is important for everyone, with the remaining four being of interest mostly to developers.

In its April 3 press release, Apple said, “At this year’s five-day conference, developers from around the world will learn about the future of iOS and OS X, giving them the latest tools and technologies to continue creating the most innovative apps for the millions of iOS and Mac customers worldwide.”

“WWDC will feature more than 100 technical sessions, over 1,000 Apple engineers, hands-on labs to help developers integrate new technologies and fine tune their apps, as well as the Apple Design Awards which showcase the best apps from the past year,” the company added.

The Cupertino giant will unveil iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 at today’s event, and many are hoping for at least one new hardware announcement. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for that announcement to be the iWatch.
