An alarmingly large number of reports echoes the same concern

This may be a false alarm to generate the appearance of scarcity (or so say some analysts) but, according to quite a few publications, iPhone 5s stock is very low.

One carrier quoted by All Things D said, “We will have grotesquely unavailable inventory,” referring to the iPhone 5s, Apple’s latest and greatest smartphone.

The same thing was reported by other sources, including 9to5mac’s Apple connects, and even BGR (all aggregated in this MacRumors report). It seems fairly plausible, especially considering the fact that Apple opened up pre-orders only for the iPhone 5c, leaving the 5s to go on sale on September 20.

Some think this is a strategy on behalf of Apple to create an impression of scarcity, but I wouldn’t bank on it. Either way, they say the hardest to come by are the all-new Gold and Space Gray models (not surprisingly), while very few people plan on buying the 64GB version, according to one survey, if that’s any help to you at all.
