As a replacement, Cupertino recommends using the letterpress cards in iPhoto

In a Support document posted online this week, Apple reveals that its Cards application is being discontinued. The functionality continues to be available in iPhoto for Mac.

Apple confirms that Cards ordered before September 10, 2013 (at 1 PM Pacific) will be delivered on schedule, while push notifications will continue to work. Customers can even view their previous purchases in the app by tapping Saved Cards.

And while Apple doesn’t force anyone to delete the Cards app on their iOS device, printed card orders will no longer work from the app.

To ease your pain, Apple says, “You can still order beautiful letterpress cards customized with your photos and text using iPhoto on your Mac.”

Of course, those who don’t own a Mac are left out in the cold, but I’m sure they’ll find other solutions out there that don’t require any Apple hardware and / or software.

Apple also mentions that iPhoto card orders will be shipped through carriers such as FedEx, not the post office.
