The standards-essential 3G data patent will not be used to inflict retribution

Samsung has yet another reason to be disappointed with its performance in its protracted lawsuit spree against Apple.

The company has been trying to persuade the UK court of law that Apple had been unlawfully using technology based on a standards-essential 3G data patent that belongs to it.

Said court has now ruled that Apple does not, in fact, infringe that patent. Quite a different outcome, compared to the public retraction Apple was ordered to make a while ago.

At least Samsung still has that damage payment cut to be joyful about.

Nevertheless, it is “disappointed by the court's decision” and it’s thinking of making an appeal. If it doesn't, it forfeits its claim to 2.5% royalties on 3G-capable Apple devices.
