Apple has put up the yellow sticky sign saying “We’ll be back soon” over at its Developer web site (the Member Center section), signaling that changes are underway for developers who wish to download and test out the new Mountain Lion.

The Cupertino, Calif. computer giant today rolled out a developer preview of OS X version 10.8. Named Mountain Lion, the new OS aims to unify the customer’s experience by merging core elements from iOS and Mac OS into one environment.

Apps like iChat and Address Book will be called Messages and Contacts, respectively, in OS X Mountain Lion, and users will even be able to enjoy cross-platform games with their iOS friends via Game Center.

This and much more will be available in Mountain Lion when it’s released this summer. For now, itchy developer fingers will have to wait until Apple takes down the sign so they can download the bits and play with the new cat.
