An Apple industrial designer called upon to testify in the ongoing legal spat with Samsung has revealed dozens of early prototype models in court, as well as the fact that Apple’s team of “maniacal” designers brainstorms design ideas around a kitchen table.

In his testimony, Apple industrial designer Chris Stringer said that a team 15 or 16 people literally sit around a kitchen table to come up with original designs, as reported by All Things D.

Appearing as the first witness in the Apple vs. Samsung trial, Stringer said “We’ll sit there with our sketch books and trade ideas. That’s where the really hard, brutal honest criticism comes in.”

“Our role is to imagine products that don’t exist and guide them to life,” Stringer said, adding that there could be as many as 50 designs for a single hardware part, such as a button. “We’re a pretty maniacal group of people,” he said.
