'Recognizing the Best in iPhone and Mac Software'

Apple has announced the Design Awards for this year's edition of WWDC, hosted June 8-12, San Francisco, Moscone West. Awards will be presented for iPhone apps created (and released) with OS 2.2.1, as well as for Mac apps for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. An extra prize will go out to the winner of best iPhone OS 3.0 app, and another to a Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard program.

“The Apple Design Awards reward and celebrate technical excellence, innovation, and outstanding achievement in iPhone and Mac software development,” says Apple. “Each year, winning products set new standards for usability, performance, technology integration and adoption. This year’s winners will raise the bar even higher.

According to Apple, awards for Best iPhone OS Applications will be presented to:

- Up to four winners who have designed applications using iPhone SDK for iPhone SDK 2.2.1 (applications must be released versions and available on the App Store). - One winner who has designed an application using iPhone OS 3.0 beta (application must be a pre-release version) - One student winner who has designed an application using iPhone SDK for iPhone SDK 2.2.1 (application must be a released version and available on the App Store).

For Best Mac OS X Application, the awards will be presented to:

- Up to four winners who have designed applications using Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard (applications must be released versions). - One winner who has designed an application using Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard (application must be a pre-release version). - One student winner who has designed an application using Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard (application must be a released version).

The Mac maker adds that entries will be evaluated in key areas that, Apple believes, are essential for creating exemplary applications on iPhone and Mac. Those areas include: Platform Innovation; Technology Integration & Adoption; Connectedness; Localization; Design & Quality; Performance Tuning & Optimization.
