It looks like Apple is rolling out the summer promotions and much like last year it is offering free iPods with Mac purchases. This back-to-school offer, combined with the printer promotion gives a great deal for replacing your old machine or buying your first one.

The "Major in Mac" back-to-school promotion offers a
US$199 rebate on any iPod nano or iPod video with the purchase of any qualified iMac, MacBook, Mac Pro, or MacBook Pro. All that is needed to participate is purchase a new Mac using your educational discount and then purchase an iPod. Then, Apple offers the choice of a snail-mail-in rebate or, for faster processing, an online rebate form. Apple even offers free shipping.

A Mac runs Microsoft Office to help you get your schoolwork done. It also comes with iLife, so you can make photo albums, music, and video chat right out of the box. And an iPod can help you get tuned in-hundreds of universities now podcast on iTunes U.
So pick up a Mac with your education discount before September 16 and get a free iPod nano. It'll be your first brilliant decision of the school year.

Beside the 'Major in Mac' promotion, Apple also has an ongoing promotion for printers. Through July 23, 2007, customers can select from over a dozen printer models to go along with their new Mac and receive a US$100 rebate.

Apple has long had a history of being in schools, however, if rumors that the Mac mini and 17-inch iMac will be discontinued come true, the company will have little to offer schools. Even if the 20-inch iMac that is reported to be replacing the 17-inch model is just as cheap it will take up significantly more space, and schools simply do not need the additional screen real-estate.
