Apple is not only upgrading Macintosh hardware this month, the Cupertino company is also dropping prices to make the systems even more attractive. All new Macs that are slated for debut are also coming pre-installed with OS X Lion.

International Apple retailers are reinforcing rumors that MacBook Airs, Mac minis, and White MacBooks are getting refreshed soon.

Not only that, they’re getting price drops in some countries outside the United States.

The reason? The US Dollar has dropped significantly against Pacific currencies (like the Japanese Yen and Korean Won) in the past year.

According to 9to5mac, some Macs are to see their prices lowered by the equivalent of $100.

Apple is known to have adjusted its pricing in accordance with currency fluctuations in the past.

It is also believed that US customers are getting at least a cheaper MacBook Air, priced at $899 with all the new enhancements - Thunderbolt I/O, Sandy Bridge CPU, and a rumored backlit keyboard.

Best Buy adds credence to these unconfirmed rumors by putting the current MacBook Air models on sale.

The discounts are modest. However, MacConnection and MacMall have also put the white MacBook model on sale, as well as some MacBook Pros.

Whether or not this has something to do with the impending refresh, these are all good signs for those looking to buy a new Mac.

Of course, the wisest decision right now is to wait for OS X Lion to be released.

If Apple does have new hardware waiting on the launchpad, it will be released in tandem with the new OS.

Pricing will at least be identical, should these price cut rumors prove to be false.

So, either way, those who wait a few more days will undoubtedly add more value to their purchase.
