Black market prices seen as clear indication that demand is low

In case you’re wondering why the iPhone 5c is always available for shipping in 24 hours or less, it’s because people aren’t crazy about it. At least that’s what sources in the supply chain are saying.

According to C Technology, a Chinese publication with ties to Apple’s component makers and assemblers, average daily orders of the iPhone 5c have been reduced from 300,000 to 150,000.

A rough translation of the Chinese-language report reads, “…Apple has begun to reduce iPhone5C capacity, average daily production was previously iPhone5C 300,000, now reduced to 150,000.”

The reason? People (at least in China) aren’t craving the polycarbonate iPhone. In fact, even the black market prices are down because of low demand.

The Apple online store tells a similar story. While the 5c can be ordered in a rainbow of colors for 24-hour shipping, the more expensive 5s ships in days, or even weeks in some territories.

Nothing new under the sun, as they say.
